The summer season is in full swing and is also bringing significant changes to the shopping habits of residents of the Baltic States. Tech company Wolt shares its observations on what products most often make up the shopping baskets of residents of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia in the Wolt Market cloud store during the warmest months of the year. "The assortment of Wolt Market stores is adapted to a specific country and even the wishes of residents of a specific region, which is also greatly influenced by the respective seasons. In the summer, we see both small differences and many similarities in the shopping habits of residents of Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania, which we take into account when preparing an offer for customers of each store," explains Jonas Orpans, Head of Wolt Market in the Baltic States. Most often, residents of the Baltic States order snacks and fresh fruit and vegetables in the summer, but there are also important nuances in the grocery basket between the neighbors. For example, in Estonia, there is a noticeable shift from traditional dairy products to lighter curd products and snacks. In Latvia, as in Estonia, the number of orders for dairy products decreases in the summer. Lithuanians, on the other hand, are different from their Baltic neighbours and are particularly active consumers of dairy products, regularly buying milk, sour cream and cheese in the summer. When it comes to fresh produce, tomatoes and cucumbers are particularly popular in both Latvia and Lithuania. Meanwhile, Estonians, along with healthier choices, also add chips and ready-made snacks to their shopping baskets. At the same time, the popularity of plant-based products has increased in all neighbouring countries over the past three years. Ice cream remains one of the most popular summer treats in all Baltic countries, and it is interesting that most Wolt Market customers prefer to order it on Sundays. Latvians and Estonians prefer tried and true classics – vanilla ice cream in a crispy waffle cone. Meanwhile, the most popular choice of Lithuanians is the unique and refreshing blueberry-lemon ice cream.
