- Respondents from Asian countries declare the greatest interest, e.g. in China, as many as 86%. In France alone, only 44% of respondents follow information about the upcoming Olympics.
- More than half of Polish respondents (56%) express interest in the Games in Paris. Thus, Poland is at the average level for all 33 countries.
There is also a clear trend observed around the world in relation to gender: Polish men are much more interested in the Olympics than women (67% vs. 47%). The most anticipated performances of Olympic teams are: volleyball competitions (40%), athletics (35%) and football (29%).
Will the Olympics bring people closer?
Almost three out of four Polish respondents (74%) believe that the Olympic Games will be an important opportunity for reflection and bringing people of different nationalities closer together. In turn, 72% declare that the Olympic team makes them feel proud of their country. Such results explain why the vast majority of Poles agree that the Olympic Games should be held despite global economic problems and conflicts (76%), and despite the impact they have on the climate (71%).
The vast majority of Polish respondents (72%) also agree with the statement that the Olympic Games inspire future generations to practice sports. However, when asked about their own experiences in this area, the respondents were not so enthusiastic. Only 38% declared that the Games inspired them to take up sports, including more men (43%) than women (33%).
The Olympic Games are an important event for Polish women and men, but they do not build hope for increasing consensus in society. Perhaps this situation will be changed by the medals won by Polish athletes in Paris. The Olympic team certainly unites the hearts of fans who, after the recent defeat of our team in the European Football Championships, are looking forward to moments of sports glory – Joanna Skrzyńska, Public Affairs Leader at Ipsos Polska.
