- Rapeseed is almost ready, but on most plantations you still have to wait a while.
- What are the basic values of rapeseed parameters in purchases?
Deductions for oil, humidity, pollution
The basic moisture content of rapeseed is 9%. Above this value, deductions are applied (usually at the level of PLN 10 – 25 for each percentage), and for lower humidity readings there is an additional fee (usually PLN 5 – 15). Harvesting rapeseed with higher moisture content, e.g. 12%, may mean quite large financial losses – in this case PLN 30 – 75/t.
Oiling rapeseed is also important. However, in this respect there is the greatest variation in the approach of purchasing companies on the market. Few companies apply subsidies for higher oil levels. Some companies examine this parameter, but do not apply deductions for lower levels. Generally, however, you have to take into account lower rates for low oil – here, too, much depends on the purchaser's approach, some people use deductions below 38%, but most often we will get lower rates for delivered goods with oil content lower than 40%.
The base value of pollution is 2%. This value does not include a surcharge for lower levels – however, deductions apply for higher levels of pollution.
Rapeseed is cut for days
It seems that most of the rapeseed plantations are already ready for harvest – at least at first glance. However, after a closer inspection, it turns out that you have to wait a while. Only a small part of the plantations from weaker sites have been harvested so far.

Drought is powerful! The corn is already cooking
In most locations, the seeds already have a moisture content in the range of 9 – 12 percent. However, after "passing" through the combine harvester, the humidity will be higher, which will result in deductions. Losses may also be generated in the crop itself, because the lower parts of the pods are often not yet technologically ready for harvesting. They constitute up to 20 – 30 percent. all siliques. However, if the pods are not ready yet, the combine will throw them behind itself.
The stems are intensely green in places, which will also make harvesting more difficult and will additionally increase the moisture of the mown rapeseed. However, they usually remain slightly greenish during harvesting. This season, however, it can be observed that there are quite a large number of severely dried stems, which is due to, among others, with intensive feeding of stem beetle larvae in most plantations.
Watch out for the weather
The situation on plantations changes from day to day. If such high temperatures continued in the next week, the rapeseed harvest would probably be in full swing in a few days. However, the forecast is for cooling. Unfortunately, meteorologists also warn about hail. Rapeseed is already at a stage when both hail and heavy rain can cause significant damage – the pods are already very susceptible to opening and thus falling off. Dry stems are also quite brittle and more susceptible to breakage.
