Wheat is getting cheaper. What are the prices of corn and soy?

Pszenica coraz tańsza. Jakie ceny kukurydzy i soi?
  • In this article you will learn what the grain prices are on August 22, 2024.
  • Wheat prices are falling not only in our purchase centers, but also on the exchanges.

Our purchases show reductions. Mostly reaching 10-20 PLN per ton. Farmers are looking for corn price lists. For now, they are still virtual, but for example, in the case of grain corn, the price has dropped, to as much as 700 PLN/t. The price of soybean, which will be harvested soon, has also dropped. Two weeks ago it cost 1900 PLN, now 1830.

We remind you that in the case of consumption wheat, the highest price this year – approx. PLN 920 this year took place at the end of May, the lowest price was in March, when donna cost approx. PLN 720. Now the average price for consumption wheat is approx. PLN 825. For comparison, in the same period of 2023 it was at the level of PLN 888, in 2022 – PLN 1,466, and in 2021 – PLN 980.

What's on the stock exchanges? – The valuation of September wheat fell below EUR 200 per tonne in Paris – the lowest since March. At the same time, the September term for American wheat SRW closed the day at the contract minimums. The international wheat market is still dominated by suppliers from the Black Sea basin (Russia, Ukraine). The consequence of the strengthening of the euro against the dollar is a further deterioration in the competitiveness of EU wheat on the international market. In the case of this grain, exports fell by over 20% year on year at the beginning of the season. On the other hand, much more cheap corn is flowing into the EU than at the beginning of the 2023/2024 season (+27% – y/y) – reports Andrzej Bąk from eWGT.

In turn, as Przemysław Błażejewski from BST Brokers reports on the X platform, "European wheat fell to a new low in the 5-month contract, below EUR 212.50/t compared to the December contract, under the influence of purchases in Tunisia. This country bought 75,000 tons of soft wheat, probably from the Black Sea, while its imports traditionally come from Western Europe. Prices were also affected by the estimates of the Ukrainian Ministry of Agriculture regarding the wheat harvest at 21.8 million tons, compared to 19.8 million tons estimated a month earlier."
