What are the goals of the beef sector?
During the meeting, representatives of the Beef Sector Council also presented short-term goals planned for 2024 and 2025. These are primarily changes related to the introduction of the new eco-scheme "High-quality meat production using low-emission methods" as part of the National Strategic Plan for the Common Agricultural Policy for 2023-2027.
As the meeting participants emphasised, this would not only enable the achievement of environmental goals, but would also contribute to strengthening the position of farmers in the supply chain and the level of farmer organisation.
The Council representatives also appealed to Minister Siekierski to maintain the welfare payments budget and to return the funds that were transferred from the animal welfare eco-scheme to the fallow eco-scheme, as emphasized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Issues related to the replacement of the basic herd of bulls and heifers and the development of technical and economic consulting were also discussed. In addition, the representatives of the Beef Sector Council present at the meeting drew attention to the need to develop a digital deforestation management system, start work on an electronic animal treatment book and integrate the veterinary system with the databases of slaughterhouses.
