Only 3% of Poles do not plan any spending in connection with gifts, and 9% intend to spend less than PLN 100 for this purpose. Most of us, as many as one in three Poles, assumed a budget between PLN 100 and 300, and almost as many, 29%, will be looking for a gift in the range of PLN 300-600. 17% of the survey’s respondents said they would spend between PLN 600 and PLN 1,000 on Christmas gifts. The most expensive gift, i.e. for more than PLN 1,000, will be decided by a small number of respondents, 8%.
Our survey has clearly shown that Poles take a rational and deliberate approach to Christmas spending. They have developed their own strategies for saving at a time of inflation, when prices are rising rapidly. Almost half of Poles take advantage of pre-Christmas promotions and discounts to save when organizing Christmas. One in three respondents plan a budget in advance and then stick to it, which is a very good shopping strategy and allows them to manage their finances wisely. However, there are also those who get carried away by the shopping frenzy and make financial decisions spontaneously (15%), and 2% intend to help themselves with credit when organizing Christmas. However, regardless of the chosen strategy, for those who want to catch some financial breath during the holidays, we recommend taking a look at our offer. You can start repaying the loan with an APR of 11.4% after only 3 months, and the bank doesn’t charge a commission,” points out Joanna Jaworska, Head of Retail Loans from VeloBank.
Promotion always at a price
Polish people love promotions – this is confirmed by the results of VeloBank’s survey. Nearly two-thirds do not pass by discounts and rebates, including 28% who always hunt for the best bargains. Often 37% of Poles do so, but at the same time admit that this is not their priority when shopping for Christmas presents.
The place where we most often look for gifts is the Internet. It is in online stores that as many as 65% of Poles buy. Shopping malls are only in second place, with 53% going there to buy gifts for loved ones. In contrast, one in five admits that buying a Christmas gift is a coincidence. One in ten will use their talents and skills and give their loved ones a handmade gift.
Mobile payments catch up with cash
The Internet has dethroned stationary stores. Poles are most likely to shop online because of convenience and time savings. The trend of moving many daily affairs to the virtual world can be seen very well in payments. Although cash is holding strong, this year as many as 44% of Poles will pay for Christmas gifts using mobile apps, with card payment coming out second, chosen by 30% of people.
