A modern farm has long ceased to be synonymous with traditional farm work, becoming a place of advanced technologies, automation and sustainable management of natural resources. In such a case, it seems reasonable to secure property: machinery and other valuable agricultural equipment.

ASF returns to the Gniezno district. The fourth outbreak in one town
What should you pay attention to when choosing a fence for your farm?
First of all – on the functionality and adaptation of the product to the farmer's needs. A fence must be not only aesthetic, but also durable and practical in everyday use. If we do not want to worry about the fence corroding after a few years and having to paint or repair it periodically – it is worth choosing reinforced, galvanized steel fences (instead of e.g. wooden ones).
They are resistant to weather conditions and eliminate potential corrosion spots. Another important feature of fencing systems is the possibility of washing them – during harvesting, mowing grass or cleaning ditches, dirt may accumulate in the fence grates. Surfaces with low dirt adhesion can make it much easier to keep the fence clean.
A good fence should be easy to install. Farmers' properties are large areas that require quick installation, especially since many farmers decide to install the fence themselves. A design approach is also important to install a solution adapted to the width of agricultural machines. If a farmer has exceptionally large vehicles in his fleet (such as seeders or combine harvesters with headers up to several meters wide), it is important to consider the offer of industrial sliding gates. These reach up to 16 meters, and if we put them together – even up to 24 meters – emphasize experts from Wiśniowski.
Additionally, it is worth investing in a solid gate that will open not only wide, but also quickly. Automatic mechanisms, such as gate actuators, can make everyday work much easier, allowing for convenient entries and exits.
However, it is good to choose a proven supplier, because in the case of entrance gates (sliding, double-leaf, folding, fully automatic or manually opened), what matters is the durability of the hinge and fastening systems, as well as their service life – all this affects the speed of entering the property and leaving it, and during harvesting this may happen many times a day – emphasize experts from Wiśniowski.
Finally, it is worth mentioning the assembly functionality, adapted to the specificity of the area. On uneven, hilly areas, flexible fences work best as they can be easily adjusted to the shape of the plot. Attention should also be paid to the possibility of modular expansion of the fence, which will allow it to be adapted to the changing needs of the farm.
Get up to 100,000 PLN subsidy for a fence as part of the fight against ASF
Currently, farmers can receive funding for investments that prevent the spread of ASF. The application period lasts until August 2 this year. The funds may be allocated, among others: for the purchase of disinfection equipment, the construction of a warehouse for storing straw and feed silos, and the construction of a fence.
The funds obtained can be used for:
- creation of a covered disinfection basin;
- equipping farms with disinfection devices;
- ensuring that people handling pigs can disinfect themselves;
- construction of a fence;
- construction or reconstruction of a warehouse for storing straw;
- establishing a silo for ready-made feed or grain intended for feed;
- ensuring that pigs are kept separate from other animals.
The co-financing limit throughout the entire implementation period of the PS CAP 2023-2027 is PLN 100,000. zloty. Assistance is provided in the form of an 80% refund. eligible costs or – in the case of investments related to the construction of a fence – 80%. flat rates:
- PLN 330 per linear meter of fence;
- PLN 2,960 for one gate;
- PLN 1,000 for one gate.
At the stage of submitting documents, you can apply for a 50% advance payment. The recruitment is conducted exclusively via the ARiMR Electronic Services Platform and will last until August 2, 2024. So far, nearly 200 applications for support amounting to over PLN 13 million have been registered.
To take advantage of the program, you must own a property and have a registered breeding facility for at least 50 pigs or 27 animals using organic methods and have an identification number in the producers' register.
As for the fence itself, it must meet additional requirements: it must be at least 1.5 m high, it must have a foundation, and the gates and gates should be closed. Applications can be submitted via the Electronic Services Platform of the Agency for Restructuring and Modernization of Agriculture – emphasize experts from Wiśniowski.
