Vion Food Group said it has signed an agreement to sell its two German slaughterhouses in Vilshofen and Landshut. The plants were sold to the Association of Producers of Southern Bavaria (EG Südbayern).
The transaction is to be completed this year. The two Bavarian slaughterhouses will be fully acquired by EG Südbayern, which already had a stake in these companies. Vion announced its restructuring plans and intentions to sell the German plants at the beginning of this year.
Ronald Lotgerink, CEO of Vion, expressed his confidence in the Bavarian Agricultural Weekly that both slaughterhouses will be successful under the new management and will continue to serve farmers.
Vion also reported that there are still no concrete plans for Germany's largest cattle slaughterhouse in Waldkraiburg. However, the Bavarian Agricultural Weekly reports rumors that the German group Tönnies wants to take over the plant, and negotiations are already underway. Neither side has confirmed these revelations so far.
