Creation of platform for innovation in pig

In Vietnam Investment Review has established a National Association of Innovation for Biological Security of Pigs , whose purpose is to establish a platform enabling innovation in breeding pigs. During the inauguration event the most important conclusions of a complex study on susceptibility of fine breeders of cattle to threats to biological safety and disease.

Program Aus4Innovation

Aus4Innovation supports research and collaboration. It is a 10-year (2018-2028) flagship program with value of 33.5 million dollars Australian (22.26 million dollars US), whose purpose is to strengthen Vietnamese innovation system. The Program is funded by the Australian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. It is managed and co-funded by the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) – the Australian National Agency of Science. The Project is implemented in strategic partnership with Ministry of Science and Technology of Vietnam.

ASF has been disrupting in Vietnam

The urgent need to strengthen Vietnam’s breeding cattle in to fight African Swine Flu (ASF) has never been more urgent. From 2019 year, the epidemic ASF has happened, and fine breeders, who account for 99.8 proc. branch, have significantly suffered from insufficient measures of biological safety. Inauguration of alliance and results of pilot stress the commitment to recognizing biosafety as the first step in defending against ASF and other diseases.

Safe, sustainable future of breeding pigs in Vietnam

Ambassador of Australia in Vietnam J.E. Andrew Goledzinowski said, that the establishment of the alliance is a fundamental step in the direction of a safe and sustainable future of cattle in Vietnam. Implementing innovative practices of biosecurity is key not only for improving the living conditions of farmers, but also for ensuring the resilience of the supply chain of food and managing the impact on the environment. Our support financial and technical support for the alliance establishes the basis of Australia’s unwavering commitment to be a trusted partner of Vietnam in innovation and scientific progress, strengthening in this way strategic partnership between our nations.

Kim Wimbush, advisor of CSIRO and director of the Aus4Innovation program, said, that thanks to managed by theCSIRO program Aus4Innovation we can strengthen the alliance through a complex strategy of support. We will provide funding to support the activities of the alliance. We will also actively seek and provide professional assistance, offer advice on research and support implementation activities. Our role also includes facilitating and enhancing interactions between members and other elements of the innovation ecosystem for successful commercialization of results of research conducted in Vietnam and Australia.

Sharing these opinions, dr Pham Cong Thieu, director general of the National Institute of Science of Animals stated, that this alliance is an active step in the direction of raising standard of cattle in Vietnam. From the other side  In-depth research offers the possibility of developing targeted tools for assessing susceptibility and resilience, which in a significant degree contributes to our common efforts for protection of breeding and welfare pigs.

Fires ASF in Vietnam

Agency Reuters reports, that epidemics ASF are spreading in Vietnam and may affect the supply of food and cause pressure on increased inflation – reads in government document. The risk of a wider spread of disease is very high and may affect the supply of food, consumption prices and the environment – is stated in a document of the Vietnamese government. According to the General Statistical Office, one of the causes of the higher consumption prices in Vietnam in June 2024 year. was the increase in pork prices caused ASF in some regions. As follows from official data, food prices increased in that month by 3.23 percent. in comparison with analogous period 2023 year.

Vietnam

in 2024 year has 42 400 infected pigs, which is an increase of almost five fold in

comparison with analogous period in the last year. In this country of Southeast Asia in

2024

year, there were 660 focus ASF, while there were 208 focus in the analogous period of the last

year. The government in the document ordered provinces to implement measures to stop the spread of the disease,

in

this priority for the purpose of vaccinating pigs against this disease. 

Vietnam has a vaccine for ASF. Tests have been successful.
