On Thursday, August 29, the new Teika Plaza shopping centre opened in the premises of the former Elkor Plaza department store at Brīvības gatve 201. Five million euros were invested in the reconstruction and redevelopment of the centre. The total area of Teika Plaza is 20,000 square metres. One of the largest Rimi stores has opened here. "The hypermarket is the largest of the Rimi store formats and offers the widest range of products for the convenience of customers. Seeing how the Teika area is developing – offices, business centres and residential buildings – we hope that Teika Plaza will become an ideal place for everyday shopping," says Inga Bite, Head of Public Relations at Rimi Latvia. The store will have three regular checkouts and seven self-checkouts. The new store will provide jobs for 60 people. The largest tenants of the new shopping centre will also be the clothing and accessories store PODIUM and the sports club MyFitness. As reported, the sports club is planned to be completed within six months, and will open its doors to visitors in the first quarter of 2025. The shopping center will also feature stores offering a wide range of goods and services – visitors will be able to buy everything they need for everyday life. Some of the stores are currently closed. The expansion of the range of stores is planned to be completed this fall. The facility will be managed by the international real estate services company Colliers. "Currently, the market is seeing a trend towards revising the concepts of retail spaces and transforming them, adapting to market needs and consumer preferences. The Colliers Baltics team has developed a new concept for several shopping centers in Latvia and the Baltic region, including the Teika Plaza shopping center, and has also attracted new tenants for the shopping center based on the developed vision and positioning," says Jevgenija Kiseleva, a representative of the Colliers Baltics Commercial Space Agency. The Teika Plaza shopping center will be open every day from 10:00 to 21:00, and the Rimi hypermarket – from 8:00 to 22:00. As Delfi Bizness previously reported, the owner of the shopping center is SIA EF Mall. The real beneficiary of the company is the co-owner of Rietumu banka Leonid Esterkin. Delfi Bizness already wrote that at the end of 2020, Alexander Popov (18.02.1968 – 26.12.2020), the founder and owner of Elkor, died suddenly and untimely. Later, information appeared about problems in various companies of the Elkor group.
