In France, the worst wheat harvest in years
According to Puls Biznesu after Bloomberg, the expected decline in the soft wheat harvest in France is once again confirmed. The French Ministry of Agriculture expects wheat grain production to reach 29.7 million tons. This represents a decrease of 15.4%. compared to last year's harvest. This year's result is expected to be 14.2% lower than the average of the last five years. A figure below 30 million tonnes was last recorded in 2020 and previously in 2016.
Current estimates, depending on the source, indicate wheat grain yields in France at the level of 6.4-6.9 t/ha with a cultivated area of 4.24 million hectares. Last year, average yields averaged 7.4 t/ha with an area of 4.75 million hectares. According to current data, the average protein content in grain is 11.6%.
France is not only an important producer, but also an exporter of wheat grain to North Africa and the Middle East. The reduction in wheat harvest will apply to the EU as a whole, but also to Russia and Ukraine.
