Unemployment increased in Lithuania (traders.lt)

As announced by Eurostat, an increase in unemployment has been recorded in our country, while this indicator has not changed in the euro zone and the European Union.

In May compared to April, the unemployment rate in Lithuania rose from 7.5 to 7.7 percent, when it reached 6.4 percent a year ago.

In the Eurozone and the European Union, this indicator did not change during the mentioned period and reached 6.4 percent and six percent, respectively. In May last year, unemployment was 6.5 percent and six percent, respectively.

Eurostat announces that the highest unemployment among the EU countries is still recorded in Spain (11.7 percent) and Greece (10.6 percent). The lowest rate was in the Czech Republic (2.7 percent) and neighboring Poland, where it reached three percent.

As for youth unemployment, its increase has also been recorded in our country (from 14.3 to 15.2 percent, compared to 11.7 percent a year ago). In the Eurozone, this indicator did not change and, as in May of last year, it was 14.2 percent, when it fell from 14.5 to 14.4 percent in the European Union, and it was 14.2 percent a year ago.

Among the EU countries, the lowest youth unemployment was recorded in Germany, where it was six percent, and in Ireland – 7.7 percent. Meanwhile, this indicator was the highest in Spain (26.6 percent) and Sweden (24.1 percent).
