According to the latest Eurostat data, both our country and the euro zone recorded an increase in unemployment, while this indicator remained stable in the European Union.
In June, compared to the previous month, unemployment in Lithuania rose from 7.7 to 8.2 percent, when it reached 6.4 percent a year ago. In the common currency zone, this indicator grew from 6.4 to 6.5 percent, when it was expected that it would not change, as in the European Union, where this indicator is six percent, but a year ago these data were similar.
The highest unemployment rate continues to remain in Spain (11.5 percent) and Greece (9.6 percent), while the lowest is in the Czech Republic (2.7 percent) and neighboring Poland, where it reaches three percent.
As for the level of youth unemployment, it increased from 15.2 to 16.3 percent in our country during the first summer month, when it reached 12.3 percent a year ago. Meanwhile, both in the euro zone (from 14.2 to 14.1 percent) and in the European Union (from 14.5 to 14.4 percent), this indicator decreased, and a year ago it reached 14.2 and 14.5 percent, respectively.
Among EU countries, the lowest youth unemployment was recorded in June in Germany (6.2 percent) and Slovenia (7.8 percent), and the highest in Spain (25.9 percent) and Sweden (23.9 percent).
