Unemployment in Latvia rose to 5.2% at the end of July

At the end of July, the registered unemployment rate in Latvia was 5.2% of the economically active population, which is 0.1 percentage points more than at the end of June, according to information released by the State Employment Agency (SEA). By the end of July 2024, a total of 46,093 unemployed persons were registered with the SEA, which is 1,031 more than a month earlier, when 45,062 unemployed persons were registered with the agency. The lowest registered unemployment rate at the end of July was still in the Riga region – 4% of the economically active population, which is 0.1 percentage points more than at the end of June, while the highest registered unemployment rate remained in the Latgale region – 10.4%, which is 0.2 percentage points less and is the only decrease in the registered unemployment rate per month by region. At the same time, in Zemgale, the registered unemployment rate increased by 0.1 percentage points in July and amounted to 4.9% at the end of the month, while in Kurzeme and Vidzeme, it increased by 0.2 percentage points and amounted to 5.1% and 5.3% of the economically active population at the end of July, respectively. At the end of last year, the registered unemployment rate in Latvia amounted to 5.7% of the economically active population.
