The number of Ukrainians in Poland does not change
The latest report by the Central Statistical Office shows that in the first quarter of this year. foreigners crossed the Polish border 35.04 million times. That's 2.4 percent. more than in the same period a year earlier. Ukrainians in the first three months of this year. they crossed the border with Poland 3.57 million times, while a year earlier it was 3.74 million times.
– Traffic on the Polish-Ukrainian border is quite stable, as is the number of Ukrainians staying in our country. This is confirmed by expenses, which dropped significantly during the pandemic and are now stabilizing. We observe a sideways trend, we do not see any increases, which shows that the number of Ukrainians in Poland is not changing and still oscillates around 2 million people – comments Krzysztof Inglot, founder of Personnel Service and labor market expert.
Before the outbreak of the pandemic, in 2014-2019, Ukrainians left approximately PLN 1.42 billion in Poland in the first three months of the year. In 2020, this result dropped to PLN 1.4 billion, although at that time we did not yet feel the effects of the pandemic on the results because it was announced later. The biggest decline occurred in 2021 and 2022, when Ukrainians spent PLN 452.8 million and PLN 647.2 million in the quarter, respectively. In 2023, the results stabilized. During the first three months of 2023, the expenditure of Ukrainians in Poland amounted to PLN 1.41 billion and the same amount was recorded in the first quarter of 2024.
Expenditures of foreigners
In total, foreigners in the first three months of this year spent PLN 8.9 billion in Poland. That's 37.7 percent. more compared to the previous year, when these expenses amounted to PLN 9.5 billion.
Looking at who left the most money in our country, in the first quarter of 2024 the largest share was spent by those crossing the border with Germany (50.8%), followed by: Ukraine (19.3%), Czech Republic (14%). percent), Slovakia (8.4 percent), Lithuania (4.3 percent), Belarus (2.9 percent) and Russia (0.3 percent).
