Ukraine is becoming a pork exporter, and the pig population is growing

The industrial herd of pigs in Ukraine now numbers 3.44 million, which means an increase of 7.8% compared to the estimates from June last year. Pork exports in June increased 1.5 times compared to the same month of the previous year, and the export result for the first half of 2024 has already exceeded the entire volume of last year – reports Latifundist, citing statistics from industry organizations.

As we read, the volume of pork imports in June this year reached 195 tons, meanwhile almost 296 tons of pork were exported at the same time with a total value of approximately PLN 700,000. dollars. This is an unusual year for the Ukrainian market, because everything indicates that the country has changed from an importer to an exporter of pork. The balance of international trade has never been so favorable.

Statistics say that imports in the period January-June amounted to 1.63 thousand. tons, which is 3.5 times less than in the first half of 2023. Exports in the same period amounted to 1.2 thousand. tons, and this is more than in the entire year 2023. The industry is happy because although prices on the domestic market are falling, the competitiveness of Ukrainian pork on foreign markets is still growing. Therefore, there is likely to be a further increase in Ukrainian exports.
