As reported by Reuters, Ukraine is trying to transport as much grain as possible this summer, using the military gains it has made in the Black Sea region to boost exports even as Russia has attacked its ports. As a reminder, despite the war, Ukraine is still one of the world's largest grain exporters and producers. In 2022, around 6 million tons of grain were transported across the Black Sea each month.

How much grain did Ukraine export?
It turns out that according to the Ukrainian Trade Union UGA, Ukraine doubled its food exports in July to over 4.2 million metric tons compared to the same month last year. This happened despite, admittedly, increased Russian attacks on Odessa, which is a key export hub of the Black Sea, but also Izmail, the main port on the Danube.
Where did Ukraine export grain?
Such data has not yet been provided, but one can guess the directions. Last season, at the same time, i.e. in July, the most wheat was exported to Spain, Egypt and Indonesia, while corn went mainly to Spain and China.
It should be noted that the increase in exports occurred despite reduced production.
– We are doing everything to make business feel comfortable even in war conditions, Dmytro Barinov, deputy head of the Sea Port Authority of Ukraine, told Reuters.
