Ukrainian Minister of Agrarian Policy Taras Vysotsky said in a television program that his ministry expects a decline in crops this season due to the July heat. Heat stress primarily harmed later-maturing crops, reports the Biz portal. Liga.net.
-Unfortunately, the effects of heat and drought are felt. It is known that such high temperatures cause stress in plants and the negative consequences cannot be ignored, Wysocki said.
According to the head of the Ukrainian ministry, early crops such as wheat, barley, rye, rapeseed, millet and peas suffered only minor damage. In the south and east of the country, yields decreased, but in the center and north they even increased.
-Therefore, the average yield for the country will be approximately 5% lower – noted the minister. -The situation is much worse in the case of corn, soybean and sunflower. In most regions, yields will be lower, according to our estimates by 15% – added Wysocki.
