The Jēkabpils district heat supply company SIA Jēkabpils siltums plans to significantly increase the tariff at the end of this year. Residents of Jekabpils are outraged: two new boiler houses were recently opened in the city and people were told that the main advantage was “a positive impact on the tariff.” However, in December it is planned to increase by more than 65%. Currently, the Jēkabpils siltums tariff is one of the lowest in Latvia – 58.56 euros per megawatt-hour, but in December it is planned to increase to 97.01 euros per megawatt-hour. The company explains that the initial hope of maintaining a low tariff did not materialize.
Two new boiler houses have been built, and heating prices will double. How is this possible?
