Two foreign chains form an alliance in Poland. UOKiK is favorable

Dwie zagraniczne sieci tworzą sojusz w Polsce. UOKiK jest przychylny
  • Auchan Polska and Intermarché inaugurate a long-term purchasing alliance and create a new entity.
  • The Office of Competition and Consumer Protection has already issued its consent for the concentration.

Auchan Polska and Intermarché filed applications to the President of the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection for consent to the concentration on May 24 this year. The partners expect that their cooperation will translate into strengthening relations with suppliers – thanks to expanding their business prospects, as well as increasing the attractiveness of the prices of the products offered as a result of combining the purchasing power of both brands. The final beneficiaries of the established alliance are to be Polish consumers, who will gain access to a wide range of products
at attractive prices.

Intermarché and Auchan will negotiate with suppliers together

Intermarché and Auchan Polska will be equal owners of the newly established legal entity, which as a central purchasing unit will represent both chains in talks with contractors. The company will have its headquarters in Warsaw, and its structure will include representatives of both chains.

The scope of cooperation assumes joint negotiations of the terms of purchase of food and non-food products of own brands, national and international, with selected suppliers delivering these items directly to each of the chains. Auchan and Intermarché will also jointly purchase goods and services for the purposes of running their own business.

– We welcome the decision of the President of the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection with great satisfaction. We are convinced that the partnership cooperation will have a positive impact on the development of the market, will bring benefits to all parties, and above all to Polish consumers, who will gain access to a wide range of products at even more favourable prices, allowing them to manage their household budgets more economically. Concern for the purchasing power of the Polish customer has been the focus of our attention for years. The currently concluded purchasing alliance is another element of the implementation of Auchan's policy in this area – said Alexandre Saussard, President of Auchan Polska.

– We are starting another stage of our joint project, which will be expressed by the establishment of a new entity on the Polish market. We believe in the potential of our brands, which have a common vision of conducting cooperation with suppliers and manufacturers, for the benefit of consumers. We have matched the appropriate resources to be able to effectively implement our assumptions, counting on fruitful cooperation and effects – added Maciej Ćwikliński, President of Intermarché in Poland.
