According to CNN Türk, during the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, which took place a few days ago in the capital of Kazakhstan, Astana, the president of Turkey talked with the president of Russia, among others. on the possibility of restoring the grain corridor in the Black Sea.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said that Türkiye considers the grain agreement to be a successful project that can be resumed.
-We started the talks with Vladimir Putin very well, especially regarding the Black Sea grain corridor. As you know, we transported 30 million tons of grain through the corridor. I asked their opinion on starting a new process, bypassing the disputed grain shipments to the West, creating a corridor through Turkey to Africa and other regions sensitive to food security, Erdogan admitted.
According to Erdogan, Putin supports such an initiative and has promised to make efforts to provide grain to poor African countries, but so that Europe, which is hostile to Russia, does not get rich on trade in Russian and Ukrainian grain. Putin is said to be open to further talks on the "Istanbul grain initiative."
"I hope that thanks to this, the grain corridor across the Black Sea will start working again," Erdogan said.
