As part of the merger, Zbigniew Paczóski, SPS Handel, PGS and the General Consumer Cooperative "Społem" in Białystok will create a joint entrepreneur.

Purchasing alliance of Polish retail chains

Zbigniew Paczóski is a shareholder and member of the bodies of subsidiaries conducting business in the field of purchasing and selling everyday consumer goods (Topaz chain), as well as in the field of organizing a franchise network of non-specialized retail stores offering the sale of AKCU (everyday consumer goods).

Topaz has been operating on the market since 1993. The chain operates in eastern and central Poland. Individual stores are located in four provinces (Mazowieckie, Lubelskie, Warmińsko-Mazurskie and Podlaskie).

SPS Handel operates in the field of purchasing and selling AKCU, as well as in the field of organizing franchise networks of non-specialized retail stores offering AKCU sales. The company operates 68 PRIM stores and 3 wholesale companies as well as 17 BiT franchise stores (Close and Cheap).

PGS is engaged in the acquisition and sale of AKCU, as well as in the organization of franchise networks of non-specialized retail stores offering the sale of AKCU.

Społem is a cooperative operating in the field of purchasing and selling AKCU, as well as in the field of organizing a network of non-specialized retail stores offering AKCU sales. In addition, Społem operates a production activity within two bakeries, a confectionery, a meat processing plant and a delicatessen plant.

After the establishment of the joint venture, its activity will include the purchase of AKCU products, which will then be sold to chains for further resale in their own stores or franchise networks organized by them.

As stated in the application, the intended activity of the new entrepreneur will also include the purchase of products under the applicants’ common own brand, which will be resold in a similar manner.

Retail chains are joining together to gain more negotiating power

Purchasing alliances are very popular in trade. Chains join forces to have greater negotiating power. Such partnerships are concluded by, among others, Auchan, Biedronka and Intermarche. Domestic trade does not undertake such initiatives so often.

An example of such an attempt was GH PL Plus, which included: Piotr i Paweł, Polomarket, Topaz and Bać-Pol. The group operated from the beginning of 2014 to spring 2018, then GH PL Plus was put into liquidation.
