Agricultural machinery manufacturers Reisch and Regent have filed for bankruptcy
The sale of Regent's assets is being handled by the auction portal Aurena.at. The list includes over 5.8 thousand different items that will go under the hammer on August 13, 2024. Bids can already be placed on some of the machines and items.
What happened to Regent?
We will be reading more information like the above in the upcoming season. The crisis on the agricultural machinery market has already affected even the largest players on the market. The larger ones will somehow cope, but the smaller ones may not survive and will simply go bankrupt.
This is not good news for anyone – behind every such event there is a tragedy for employees, dealers and often the owners themselves, because these are family businesses, small, often operating for several generations. For farmers, a smaller number of companies competing with each other is also not good news.

Fendt factories in Germany are reducing working hours. Market stagnation to blame
In the case of Regent, the problems started earlier, in 2023. At that time, we reported on the company's bankruptcy and restructuring attempts. Unfortunately, things did not go well and the trustee decided to auction off the company's assets. At the moment, it is difficult to count on individual companies buying each other's plants. Concerns are currently getting rid of factories and brands, and they do not want to hear about new investments, apart from existing plants/areas.
photo: Aurena.at Oberösterreichische Nachrichten journalists point out that the financial difficulties of Regent were caused by complications related to the Covid-19 pandemic, which caused disruptions in supply chains, staffing problems and high energy prices in the past. At the time of bankruptcy, 59 people worked at the plant, but a year or two earlier, around 100 people worked for Regent.
Regent Company History
The origins of Regent date back to 1925, when Ferdinand Berger opened his first forge. After the war, in 1946, Berger introduced the world's first tractor-mounted angle plough. A year later, the company name was changed to Regent, but the Berger family remained owners of the factory until its end. Today, the company was run at the Attnang-Puchheim location, and the management was led by third-generation descendants of the founders.

The plant occupied 3 hectares of land and everything was manufactured, developed, designed, built, tested, assembled and delivered to customers on site. Regent equipment was shipped to over 35 countries throughout Europe and another 15 worldwide.
What can you buy at auction?
As Oberösterreichische Nachrichten emphasizes, not only Regent ploughs, cultivators and harrows are going under the hammer, but also the production plants themselves, e.g. a forging furnace from the company's own forge, CNC machining centers, machine tools, a laser cutting system with an installation area of 70 m2, welding equipment, painting systems, bending machines, various presses and much more.
The auctions also feature many items for the home workshop, such as vices, work gloves and transport boxes. Office equipment, furniture, smartphones, houseplants and decorative items will also be available for sale, as well as workwear and T-shirts in the "Regent" design. The Aurena.at list also includes trucks for transporting machinery, company cars and forklifts. Fans of mechanization who like the history of agricultural machinery will also find something for themselves, such as models of ploughs, advertising tarpaulins and an original advertising board of "Regent Pflugfabrik F&C Berger".

One of the more expensive pieces of agricultural equipment on the Aurena list is the Regent Raptor XM4 500 cultivator with a working width of 485 cm. The Regent Titan 140M reversible plough, 4-furrow, with a working width of 33-52 cm is currently listed for 12.5 thousand euros, but its catalogue price is just over 36 thousand euros.
In contrast, the powerful, semi-mounted, 8-furrow, reversible plough, Regent – Quivogne Atlant 8 ON-LAND, has now reached the price of 7.4 thousand euros, and its catalogue value is over 73.5 thousand euros.
