ASF in new locations

Once again, we are dealing with an outbreak of ASF in very unfortunate locations. This applies in particular to the herd from Szamotuły County. This region belongs to the Greater Poland pig basin. At the end of 2023, there were 438 pig herds in the county, keeping a total of over 60,000 animals. In the remaining counties – Goleniów and Sztum, the pig population did not exceed 20,000 animals.

ASF swine in 2024

We already know that in terms of the number of outbreaks, this year will be the worst since at least 2021. Since June, ASF has been confirmed in 40 pig herds, and direct losses resulting from herd liquidation have exceeded 16,000 pigs. ASF has appeared in regions strategic for national pig production – in the center of Wielkopolska, the central and northern part of the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship and the southeastern edge of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship.
