Common fears of young Poles

– The fact that only 1.5% of respondents are not afraid of anything at all indicates the widespread presence of fears in the everyday lives of young people. The study result is not surprising, but at the same time it shows how much young people need support in dealing with their fears, says Patryk Rzepka, psychologist, one of the co-authors of the report from the RISIFY.pl psychotherapy platform.

Taking into account the above list, most people aged 18-35 are afraid of lack of money – 47.4%. – In my opinion, this is the result of both high inflation and other factors, such as low earnings at the beginning of a professional career and consumption pressure. Young Poles need the opportunity to increase their income so that they can better plan their future and reduce financial stress, comments Patryk Rzepka.

The fear of lack of money is more often indicated by women than men (49.3% vs. 45.3%). It is mainly spoken by people from rural areas and towns with a population of up to 5,000. inhabitants (54.4%). This mostly applies to Poles with a monthly net income of PLN 1,000-2,999 (54.9%) and with secondary secondary education (51.6%).

– The above fear is more common among women, people with lower income, secondary education and residents of rural areas and small towns due to their greater sensitivity to economic changes and less financial flexibility. In addition, there are limited earning potential. This indicates the need to support these groups in financial education and opportunities to increase income, argues one of the study's co-authors.

Young people are worried about the rising costs of living

In second place on the list is the fear of an increase in the cost of living – 27%. The TOP5 also includes concerns about losing a job or earning capacity – 24%, rising prices in stores – 23.9%, and high taxes – 23.6%.

– All these concerns reflect the difficult economic situation of young people. They point to the financial instability and uncertainty in the labor market that they have to face. Young people are often just starting their professional careers, which means lower earnings and fewer opportunities to save. High inflation, rising costs of living and taxes put additional strain on their budgets. It must also be clearly stated that young people increasingly feel a lot of stress related to finances, which may affect their life decisions, including relationships and divorces – notes an expert from the RISIFY.pl platform.

Further in the ranking are fears of falling into debt – 20.9%, the influx of immigrants – 19.6%, the death of a loved one – 16.7%, being a victim of fraud – 14.7%, and the return of high inflation – 14.4%.

– Fear of debt may be related to difficulties in managing finances and credit burdens, but not only that. The fear of fraud is justified in the digital age, where various threats such as phishing and identity theft exist. These fears highlight the need for financial education and awareness of online security. The fear of an influx of immigrants may result from uncertainty about the impact on the labor market and society. This is not surprising in the context of current public debates on this topic – analyzes Patryk Rzepka.

The ranking ends with fear of contacts with offices – 0.4%. In front of it are indications of hate on the Internet – 0.9%, lack of professional advancement – 1%, motherhood or fatherhood – 1.1%, jealousy of other people – 1.1%, and marriage – 1.1%.

– The least frequently chosen concerns may indicate that young people may feel more and more confident in situations related to formalities and professional development. They may also rarely contact offices or feel confident in such situations thanks to increasingly better digitalization and simplified administrative procedures. It is also visible that they feel better and better in professional matters, hence the fear of this type of things is relatively small – summarizes Patryk Rzepka.

Report entitled "What are young Poles afraid of? Edition I 2024” was based on a survey conducted using the CAWI (Computer Assisted Web Interview) method on a sample of 808 Poles aged 18-35. The authors of the report are experts from the UCE RESEARCH analytical and research platform and the RISIFY.pl psychotherapy platform.
