GLS will operate courier bikes at the first micro transshipment hub in Poland
– This is a milestone in the development of GLS services. We have analyzed various options and the most effective solution turned out to be cooperation with ORLEN – says Tomek Zwiercan, Managing Director of GLS in Poland.
GLS Poland is the first company with which ORLEN has established such cooperation. The agreement allows for flexible adjustment of the scope to the needs and expectations of both parties.
– This is the implementation of previously announced plans to develop the ORLEN Paczka vending machine network and a response to the needs of entities on the courier market. By sharing the machines, we will use them more effectively and thus reduce the impact on the environment – says Maciej Chłodziński, Manager of the Parcel Machine Network Department at ORLEN.
Access to 6,000 parcel machines
For GLS, this means the ability to use over 6,000 ORLEN Paczka machines throughout Poland. Taking into account the current GLS points operated under the Szybka Paczka brand in local shops, supermarkets and petrol stations, the company will be able to deliver to over 11,000 points throughout Poland.
In Europe, GLS has 70,000 Parcel Shops and 15,000 parcel machines, including partner points. After adding ORLEN Paczka, this last number will increase significantly. GLS parcels will be available for collection in ORLEN parcel machines from October. The next step will also be the possibility of sending them.
Currently, ORLEN and GLS are at the stage of system integration, technological and operational changes. After their completion, they will present details of the new solution and how it will be used by business and individual customers.
Parcels from GLS at Lidl
GLS parcels can be sent and received during the opening hours of Lidl stores. To do this, go to a store employee in the self-service checkout zone. The system supports collections and sendings as part of returns, i.e. ShopReturnService services. Returns are free of charge for both domestic and international parcels – it covers 24 European countries, including Spain, Germany and Italy.
– For GLS, this is another step in developing the OOH (out of home) delivery network and taking into account Szybka Paczka points – emphasizes Sebastian Mazurowski, GLS Szybka Paczka Network Development Manager.
The pilot program conducted in the recently opened 16 Lidl branches was carried out in accordance with the adopted standards of both companies and was positively received by customers. The implementation of the project from the technological side is supported by the integrator Pointpack.
Currently, including the Lidl chain, GLS has 7,000 Szybka Paczka points in Poland.
It is also possible to collect and send parcels in many other stores and service points, such as: ABC, Auchan, Carrefour, Dealz, Delikatesy Centrum, Duży Ben, Lewiatan, Martes Sport, Stokrotka, and in Bonito bookstores and Kolporter newsagents. After starting cooperation with Lidl, it is in this network that the most GLS parcel sending and receiving points will be located.
