Komputronik improves results and ends the quarter with a solid profit
Despite increases in unit costs (including an increase in the minimum wage in January 2024 by nearly 20 percent), the actions taken by the management board resulted in the Komputronik Group achieving sales revenues higher by 2.3 percent compared to the previous year, while sales and general administrative costs were 0.6 percent lower than a year ago.
– The increase in GDP dynamics and good prospects for Poland's economic development, the inflow of funds from KPO, the growing role of corporate social responsibility, the development of technology, and artificial intelligence should have a positive impact on the improvement of the market for electronics and additional services – comments Wojciech Buczkowski, President of the Management Board of Komputronik SA
Increase in GDP dynamics and good prospects for economic development
The dynamics of Polish GDP surprised strongly on the upside, accelerating in Q2 2024 to 3.2% year-on-year from 2% in Q1. This result is well above forecasts.
– Consumer sentiment is improving. This means that companies are also increasing their investments in hardware, specialist software and IT services. Due to the use of EU funds, there is demand from the public sector. The GDP growth rate is also increasing. In addition, we still have a relatively low level of household computer equipment saturation compared to other EU countries. All these factors should have a positive impact on sales this year – explains Wojciech Buczkowski.
An important element is the dissemination of solutions and programs using artificial intelligence, which, due to high hardware requirements, drive the replacement of older devices with new ones that enable work with AI.
The largest share in Komputronik Group sales in the first fiscal quarter of 2024 were laptops, smartphones and PCs.
Other significant product groups included peripherals (printers, monitors, projectors), components for computer upgrades and self-assembly, and computer and office accessories (inks and toners). In the business segment, the importance of comprehensive services is growing – IT outsourcing, printing outsourcing, projects related to security and software implementation, as well as the supply of server products and solutions for storing rapidly growing amounts of stored data.
– We continue to focus on strategic product categories such as laptops and PCs, mobile devices (smartphones, tablets, watches), components, peripherals, network equipment and smart home solutions, software and RTV and household appliances. We direct personalized promotional campaigns and discount programs to our individual customers and companies, and we dress the entire offer in a set of complementary services. All activities are supported by advanced media analytics and systematic monitoring of sales results – explains Wojciech Buczkowski.
Selling Gaming Computers and Laptops for Teachers
– We see higher demand from individual customers, especially in the PC segment – including gaming computers, devices for building a smart home and office, and in the IT outsourcing services segment in the case of Komputronik Biznes services. We also hope for the further implementation by teachers of the "teacher voucher" program, which expires on December 31, 2025, and tens of thousands of vouchers remain unused in the hands of teachers – adds Buczkowski.
Komputronik is counting on further growth in PC sales. In recent years, consumers have focused mainly on portable devices, but after the strong, pandemic years of 2020 and 2021, the number of laptops sold in Poland has flattened. The growth caused by the sudden need to switch to remote work has come to an end. The desktop PC segment is different. On the one hand, until recently, they were treated mainly as gaming computers, but they are also much better, more efficient and more convenient devices for everyday work, compared to portable computers or tablets with small screens. Additionally, due to their high efficiency, they can be used for smooth work with artificial intelligence.
– Recently, the Polish market has absorbed over 1.5 million portable computers, which is 100 thousand less than a year earlier. The situation looks more optimistic on the desktop computer market. We estimate that the number of devices delivered will oscillate around 380 thousand, which is almost 30 percent more than a year earlier. At Komputronik, we offer models from almost all the world's leading brands. In addition, we are also developing our own brand, which is very attractively priced, while also offering the most efficient machines – says Wojciech Buczkowski.
Further development of omnichannel
– The company has been working in the omnichannel model for years. From the customer's perspective, we provide them with various sales channels, ensuring a uniform experience and maximum benefits and advice, deeply embedded in the company's DNA. We are gradually growing stronger and developing the Komputronik.pl website, implementing new tools that make it easier for customers to choose and shop, and investing in the construction of online consulting centers. The situation of stationary stores is also stable, and the number of visits is several percent higher than those we had last year. With improved efficiency and product and service cross-selling, this allows the Group to generate stable sales growth – informs Wojciech Buczkowski.
