There are big differences by country in Europe when it comes to online shoppers’ favourite payment methods. What is clear is that global payment methods such as credit cards and PayPal are popular just about everywhere.
Bancontact in Belgium, iDEAL in the Netherlands
In Belgium, Bancontact will again remain by far the favourite payment method of Belgian consumers in 2024, for paying for online purchases. 73% prefer Bancontact to all other payment methods. 70% also use this payment method most often.
41% of Belgian consumers like to pay online with a debit card, 36% do so most often. In third place is PayPal: 39% prefer to use this method, 33% use it often.
