- The Social Policy and Family Committee issued a positive opinion on the draft amendment to the Act on Social Pensions.
- It provides for the payment of an additional supplement in the amount of PLN 2,520 to persons entitled to a social pension who are completely incapable of work and independent existence.
- The amount of the allowance is to be indexed annually.
The citizens' bill amending the act on social pensions assumed increasing the amount of the social pension from PLN 1,217.98 net to the amount of the minimum wage. Currently, the amount of the social pension is equal to the amount of the lowest pension for total incapacity for work, i.e. PLN 1,588.44. This bill was discussed in July by the Social Policy and Family Committee and during the work, amendments were proposed, which assume the introduction of a supplementary supplement, which in response to the citizens' bill is to increase the amount of the social pension.
How much will the additional allowance be?
– The allowance will be granted in the amount of PLN 2,520. This amount results from the difference between the amount of the minimum wage established on the basis of separate provisions as of December 31, 2024 – PLN 4,300, and the amount of the lowest pension for total incapacity for work – said the chairwoman of the Social Policy and Family Committee, Katarzyna Ueberhan (Left).
According to the MP, the amount of the supplement will be indexed annually on 1 March through a statement by the president of the Social Insurance Institution.
The committee voted unanimously in favor of the bill introducing the supplementary supplement. The act is to enter into force on January 1, 2025.
Who is the complementary supplement for?
According to the amendment to the Act, the supplementary allowance is an additional benefit that will be available to persons entitled to a social pension who are completely incapable of work and independent living.
As emphasized by the Deputy Minister of Family and Government Plenipotentiary for the Disabled, Łukasz Krasoń, the project partially implements the assumptions of the civic project. He pointed out that the benefits system in Poland is complicated.
In order to introduce one change, a right one, which the disabled community expected, we have to edit seven different acts, he says.
The Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Policy does not rule out that the list of people entitled to this benefit will be expanded over time.
