GLS will operate the first micro-transhipment hub in Poland with courier bikes
– This is a milestone in the development of GLS in Poland and the next stage in building our out-of-home delivery network. We analyzed various options and the most effective solution turned out to be cooperation with ORLEN – says Tomek Zwiercan, managing director of GLS in Poland.
GLS Poland is the first company with which ORLEN has established such cooperation. The agreement allows for flexible adjustment of the scope to the needs and expectations of both parties.
– This is the implementation of previously announced plans for the development of the ORLEN Paczka vending machine network and a response to the needs of entities on the courier market. By sharing machines, we will use them more effectively and thus reduce the impact on the environment – says Maciej Chłodziński, head of the Parcel Machine Network Department at ORLEN.
Access to 6 thousand parcel machines
For GLS, this means the ability to use over 6,000. ORLEN Paczka machines throughout Poland. Taking into account the existing GLS points operated under the Szybka Paczka brand in local stores, supermarkets and gas stations, the company will be able to deliver to over 11,000. points throughout Poland.
The new cooperation also strengthens the position of the GLS Group in Europe – GLS has 70,000 here. Parcel of Shops and 15 thousand parcel machines, including partner points. After the addition of ORLEN Paczka, this last number will increase significantly. GLS parcels will be available for collection at ORLEN parcel machines before the peak parcel season, in October. The next step will also be the possibility of broadcasting them.
As both companies emphasize, the aspect of ecology and sustainable development is also important.
Currently, ORLEN and GLS are at the stage of system integration, technological and operational changes. Once completed, they will present details of how the new solution works and how it is used by business and individual customers.
