In the last month of last year sales of light and commercial vehicles doubled compared with December 2023 year. Growth of 109.5 percent was a record high, with over 4300 vehicles sold in one month.

“Predictions that the end of the year would become a very active period for sales of vehicles have come true. More than that in annual expressions of sales of automobiles in 2024 year increased by 11.1%. If in 2023 year Estonia was sold 26 903 cars, then in 2024 year – almost 30 000. The introduction of the auto tax from the beginning of this year became the obvious reason why buyers postponed their decisions until the end of the year, and sellers reached record sales volumes, ” says Raido Rosenfeld, director of Elke’s Elke offices in Tallinn Raido Rosenfeld.

In Elke’s estimation, in this situation the advantage was those auto sellers who had a good stock. “Those those who had warehouses filled with automobiles and who could react very quickly to the increasing demand. certainly had a competitive advantage in the market,

Rosenfeld noted.

In the Lightweight Vehicle Segment the Market Leader in December was Toyota with a 20.3% market share. In second place Skoda with an 18.1% market share, in third – Volkswagen with 14.7%, in fourth- Renault with 9.6 percent, in fifth – Kia with 4.2 percent, in sixth – Dacia with 3.7 percent. Seventh, eighth and ninth places were taken by Audi, Citroën and Hyundai, whose shares were about 2 percent.

In the commercial vehicle segment in December the market leader also was Toyota with a 24.5% share. In second place Ford with 14.5%, in third – Volkswagen with 13.3%, in fourth – Peugeot with 12.3 percent, in fifth – Citroën with 11.5 percent, in sixth – Renault with 10.5 percent.

Summary analysis of sales of new cars categories M1+N1 for the year shows that Toyota has become the most selling brand in Estonia. A total of 5,310 new new Toyota cars were sold.

By fuel type in last year the most popular were vehicles with hybrid powertrains . Total sales of 11 614 such vehicles, which accounted for 45.1% of total total sales (light vehicle segment, category M1).

The second place in popularity was cars with gasoline engines – 6,783 cars, with a 26.3% share of total sales. These are followed by cars with diesel engines with 4,507 sold vehicles (17.5%). Electric cars were registered 1323, their share was5.1%ofthetotalsales.
