On August 1, Grand Hotel Viljandi closed its buffet because there were too few visitors and the chef was lured away by a competitor.
As of August 1, the hotel restaurant no longer offers daily specials at lunch. A message appeared on social networks that now the restaurant can only hold meetings, birthdays and funerals.
The hotel's chief financial officer, Aivar Talvet, told Sakala that the economic crisis and people's precarious economic situation also appeared to have affected customers who came to the restaurant at lunchtime for the daily specials. “The buffet was no longer economically viable. At the beginning of July, we closed the evening à la carte restaurant. There are plenty of such places for lunch in the center of Viljandi,” said Talvet.
