Huge losses in the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, the Chamber of Agriculture intervenes

Over the last week, storms have occurred in various places in Poland. Unfortunately, their local scale was very large, so much so that there are places in the country where the harvest is already over, because cereals or rapeseed were threshed by hail.

A difficult situation, as we have already informed about on farmer.pl, is in the Słupia commune (Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship), where on July 14, heavy rain and hail appeared. In this commune, 5,000 people were completely destroyed. ha, i.e. up to 80 percent crop area in its area. The mayor of the Słupia commune has already announced that applications for estimating crop losses will be accepted.

Massive damage also affects other communes in the Jędrzejów poviat (Małogoszcz, Nagłowice, Oksa, Sędziszów, Sobków), as well as in the Włoszczowa poviat (Moskorzew commune). The Management Board of the Świętokrzyska Chamber of Agriculture has already intervened in the matter of the storms of July 13/14. The Chamber's announcement states that the streets have turned into raging torrents. Hail and fallen trees damaged houses, farm buildings, granaries, agricultural equipment and cars. There were difficulties on many roads and some sections were impassable. Gusty winds destroyed many home facades, roofs and fences. The element devastated the crops. Farmers expect immediate help and support. The most damaged crops are corn, rapeseed, peas and wheat (damage to agricultural crops is estimated at up to 95%). The lack of any support for farmers will contribute to the collapse and bankruptcy of many family farms that have been engaged in agricultural production for generations.

The Management Board of the Chamber requests the Minister to declare a state of natural disaster in the indicated areas of the voivodeship and to immediately release the Government's financial reserve and pay the affected farmers in advance financial resources for the current needs of the farm and family, so that they can survive this difficult period. Partial write-off of loans or deferral of their repayment for next year, write-off and relief in the payment of agricultural tax and real estate tax, as well as social security relief in KRUS are also possible. Moreover, the Management Board of the Chamber requests the payment of advances from ARiMR towards direct payments.

Damage locally across the country

Large storms occurred locally throughout the country. Reports of crop damage also come from northern Poland. Flooding of plantations was reported in the Warmian-Masurian, Pomeranian and West Pomeranian Voivodeships, and in some places crops looked like rice plantations after the storms. As Radio Olsztyn reports, among others: the Barciany commune (Kętrzyn poviat) will apply to the voivode for recognition of a natural disaster. In a statement quoted by Radio Olsztyn, the commune's mayor, Marta Kamińska, points out that the massive destruction concerns, among others, rapeseed, which has been beaten, but also cereals.

The difficult situation also applies to some towns in the Greater Poland Voivodeship. Heavy downpours flooded many plantations, the situation was difficult, among others: in the town of Grębanin in the Kępno district. Farmers from Silesia and the Opole region also report flooding of crops; storms also "flooded" some plantations in the center of the country. Some of them will not be suitable for mowing.

Various degrees of spot damage to crops occur in most locations in the country. However, their scale sometimes varies. However, damage caused by hail is visible in some corn plantations, as is the case with rapeseed still remaining in the fields, where even heavy rainfall, even without hail, is dangerous for it in this development phase. Very strong winds additionally contributed to lodging of cereals. However, these are problems that will make harvesting more difficult, and the worst situation is on farms where the combine harvester has no reason to enter. After all, storms locally not only "laid" the grain, but even shattered the ears.

On Wednesday morning, the National Fire Service Headquarters informed that due to the passage of the weather front, firefighters made almost 5,000 calls. interveners (on Tuesday and on the night from Tuesday to Wednesday). Most of them were undertaken in Pomerania, Mazovia, Lesser Poland and the Lublin region.

In many farms the situation will be difficult because help resulting from a natural disaster will not occur immediately. Meanwhile, the means of survival are needed "right now". Meanwhile, cereals and rapeseed that could have already been sold were completely destroyed. Therefore, communes and agricultural chambers take actions in the affected areas to speed up the provision of aid. Time counts here. A few minutes of storm destroyed an entire year's work.
