The authorities of the Rostov Oblast of the Russian Federation have officially announced that they must reduce the initial estimates of the grain harvest by 38% – to 10 million tons. As they explained, the crops were first damaged by spring frosts, then floods, and before the harvest, intense heat and drought – reports Reuters.
Rostov Oblast is a real grain production basin, which last year provided 11% of the total grain harvested in the Russian Federation. The Russian Ministry of Agriculture must therefore revise its forecasts for this year. According to the latest forecasts of the Ministry of Agriculture, the grain harvest in Russia in 2024 was to amount to 132 million tons, which is 9% less than in 2023 (145 million tons) and 16% less than in the record year 2022 (158 million tons). .
In 50-degree heat, we harvest what is left in our fields after frosts, floods and scorching sun – workers of agricultural enterprises near Rostov complain in the Russian media. Some farms say outright that they will harvest perhaps half of what they harvested last year.
