The case is interesting because wild boars are an unofficial symbol of Krynica Morska, or more broadly – the entire Vistula Spit. They even have their own monument on the promenade in Krynica, which we present in the title photo.
We have recently written about the fact that in this famous resort we can easily encounter wild boars walking among tourists and showing virtually no fear of humans. It is worth mentioning that we also have a similar problem with wild boars in the Tricity. where wild boars roam not only in recreational areas, but even in housing estates.

Holidays with wild boars. An attraction for tourists, but in practice a threat of spreading ASF
Where did ASF occur?
Apart from Krynica Morska, we have one more area where the plague has been unheard of so far. We are talking about the Drawno commune in the Choszczno poviat. This area has so far been free from ASF, and the nearest outbreaks of the disease were confirmed nearly 60 km away.
Additionally, the disease occurred in the following areas:
Lublin province:
- Hrubieszów district (Horodło commune)
Lubuskie:
- Międzyrzecz poviat (Bledzew and Trzciel communes)
Opole Voivodeship:
- Brest poviat (Lubsza commune)
Podlasie Voivodeship:
- Siemiatycze poviat (Mielnik and Nurzec-Stacja communes)
Pomeranian Voivodeship:
- Kwidzyn district (Kwidzyn commune)
Holy Cross province:
- Opatów district (Ożarów commune)
- Starachowice district (Brody and Mirzec communes)
Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship:
- Piska district (Biała Piska commune)
Greater Poland Voivodeship:
- Oborniki poviat (Oborniki commune)
- city of Poznań
West Pomeranian voivodeship:
- Stargard County (Stargard Commune)
- city of Szczecin
In 27 ASF outbreaks, traces of the virus were confirmed in the tissues of 35 animals. 29 of them concerned dead wild boars, while the remaining ones concerned shot wild boars.
