Weaner prices are on a slippery slope. Another week with a decline
Forecasts for the piglet market
Jakub Dorożyński, sales specialist from PH Konrad, points out that there may be further reductions on the weaner market.
– I am afraid that Germany may lower the prices of fattened pigs on a large stock exchange. A reduction was expected already this week, but it did not happen. I feel like it's been pushed back a week. Therefore, it must be taken into account that fattened pigs may become cheaper by 5-10 cents, which would result in lower prices of fattened pigs in Poland. This, in turn, will translate into further reductions in pig prices. Declines in this market also indicate a continuing oversupply, especially since free market prices are still much lower than contract prices, says Dorożyński.
When will the price reductions for weaner pigs end?
However, our interlocutor indicates that there is a chance to change the price trend on the weaner market in the near future.
– In my opinion, the weaner market may recover in the second half of the month. There should be more sales as the harvest will end and the sales planned for the sale of fattened pigs before Christmas will start. In addition, grain prices are not high, which encourages them to be processed by fattening. However, the situation is made more difficult by ASF, which leaves many farmers blocked, explains Dorożyński.

Current prices of domestic weaners (02/08/2024)?
In the case of domestic weaners, the vast majority of surveyed sales points decided to offer discounts (from PLN 5 to PLN 30/piece).
According to the results of our weekly survey, rates for domestically produced weaners weighing 20 kg currently average PLN 338/piece. net, i.e. by PLN 13/pcs. net less than a week earlier. Prices of weaners in this mass range from PLN 320 to PLN 360/piece. net.
In turn, domestic weaners weighing 30 kg cost on average PLN 410/piece. net, i.e. PLN 13/pcs. net less than last week. Their prices range from PLN 360 to PLN 450/pcs. net.

How much do imported weaners cost (02/08/2024)?
In the case of imported piglets, more than half of the surveyed sales points decided to reduce prices (from PLN 8 to PLN 20/piece). The remaining points maintained their rates.
Weaner pigs imported from Denmark are currently valued at an average of PLN 404/piece. net, i.e. by PLN 5/pcs. net less than last week. Their prices range from PLN 322 to PLN 462/piece. net. The prices given are for weaners weighing 30 kg.
