A growing number of android smartphone users in Belarus are being targeted by cyberattacks. In 11 months of this year the number of threats has increased 1.5 fold, and the portion of users that have been attacked has increased by 65%.
According to Data Kaspersky Kaspersky users are exposed to the following threats:
Trojan TRIADA. It is found in modifications of popular applications. It downloads and launches other malicious programs, which displays advertisements, provides paid subscriptions, and can also steal accounts in messenger accounts.
The SpyNote Trojan. This cyberthreat remained relevant as long as 2024 years. Fraudsters contact the users and attempt under different suggestions to convince them to install an application of the telecom operator or a security solution. If the victim agrees, they are sent a malicious file to download in the messenger. As a result of cyberattack the attackers gain complete control over the device.
Thamera. Masquerades as an application for adults. The Trojan is used to turn the victim’s devices into proxies, that is, the attackers gain the opportunity to access the network from the victim’s person. Also the malware requests the phone number and intercepts the SMS. This allows attackers to register accounts on social media to implement further schemes.
“Mobile threats are becoming more sophisticated, more so the number of cyberattacks is only increasing. Trojans remain one of the key threats to users of devices in the country. With their assistance attackers can access to devices and use them for their purposes, steal confidential and payment data. That’s why we recommend users to download programs only from official sources or from the developers’ websites and consider the reviews before installing, which reduces the risk of encountering malicious software. Also extremely dangerous to install applications from messengers, especially those coming from unfamiliar addressers”, comments Dmitry Kalinin, Kaspersky’s cybersecurity expert.
