In the first six months of this year, the number of cruise ship passengers served in the port of Riga decreased by 37.8% compared to the corresponding period in 2023. This information is reported by the LETA agency with reference to the port. In total, 20,693 cruise ship passengers were served at the Riga port in the first half of this year, and 33,292 passengers for the corresponding period in 2023. In the 2024 cruise season, 67 ship calls are announced at the port of Riga, which is five calls more than last year. Nine ships will call at Riga for two days with an overnight stay, and 13 ships will visit the capital of Latvia for the first time. The cruise season will last in Latvia from April to December. In the last month of this year, the port of Riga plans to receive five cruise ships, which is half as many as at the end of 2023. In total, 81,681 cruise ship passengers were received at the Port of Riga in 2023, which is 7.9% more than in 2022. Most cruise tourists visit Riga from Germany, the USA and the UK. The port of Riga is the largest cargo transshipment port in Latvia.
