Energy prices cannot be reduced or frozen for a fee

As MKiŚ experts emphasize, you do not have to pay anyone to have cheaper electricity. Meanwhile, information appears on social media, among others, about the option of paying PLN 1,000 in exchange for avoiding changes in the amount of energy bills.

We report the case to NASK, ABW and the prosecutor's office. This is another wave of disinformation attacks aimed at sowing fear in society and extorting data and money. I have information that some of the methods used in these messages are based on videos created with artificial intelligence, in which I allegedly encourage strange investments.
– warns Paulina Hennig-Kloska, Minister of Climate and Environment.

In recent days, the Ministry of Climate and Environment has been receiving e-mails and telephone calls asking about the veracity of information about the alleged costs that must be incurred in the context of electricity or gas prices.

Fraudsters use various forms, from links to dangerous websites, through text messages or photos using images of famous people.

Literally a month ago, graphics and posts with information "how to avoid huge increases in energy prices" were displayed on the Internet. Therefore, the Ministry of Environment and Environment would like to remind you that from July 1, 2024, the Act on the temporary limitation of prices for electricity, natural gas and district heating and on the energy voucher will be in force.

Encouraging people to click on unverified links and false information about how to avoid drastic increases is one of the ways of extorting data, fraud and conducting disinformation activities aimed at causing panic – emphasize MKiŚ experts.

Applications for a one-off energy voucher 2024. When to submit?

From August 1, 2024, it will be possible to apply for an energy voucher, a one-off cash benefit intended for approximately 3.5 million lower-income households.

An application for an energy voucher will have to be submitted from August 1 to September 30, 2024. The commune will have 60 days to consider the application. The money should be paid from autumn 2024.

The Act provides for differentiation of the energy voucher rate and divides households into 4 groups:

  • for a single-person household – PLN 300;
  • for a household consisting of 2 to 3 people – PLN 400;
  • for a household consisting of 4 to 5 people – PLN 500;
  • for a household consisting of at least 6 people – PLN 600.

When the main heating source of a given household is powered by electricity, the amount of the energy voucher for these households is increased by 100% (i.e. a maximum of PLN 1,200).

The voucher is aid for households whose average income in 2023 did not exceed PLN 2,500 per person in a single-person household or PLN 1,700 per person in a multi-person household.
