The merger of Baltcom and Bite Latvija is completed: the mobile operator begins to offer optical Internet

Завершено объединение Baltcom и Bite Latvija: мобильный оператор начинает предлагать оптический интернет

On July 1, the merger of two Bite group companies – Baltcom and Bite Latvija – was completed, and now all previous services of Baltcom will continue to be provided by Bite Latvija. The mobile operator has at its disposal a wide optical Internet network, which is already available to more than 400,000 households throughout Latvia. Bite Latvija, as a result of the merger with Baltcom, becomes a mobile operator that owns not only the 4G/5G mobile network, television and client equipment Data Centers, but also state-scale optical infrastructure designed to connect end clients and households. “I am proud that as of today, July 1, Bite begins offering its optical internet, thus becoming the first service provider in the industry to have both a powerful next-generation 5G network and a wide-coverage optical network. The merger of the two companies strengthened Bite’s position in the market of electronic communications and ICT services, which allows us to offer clients the widest possible portfolio of services. The main beneficiaries of the merger are our existing and future clients who will be able to purchase Internet services for home and office using an optical network or a 5G network, popular Go3 television on the market, voice services, various IoT and ICT solutions for business, as well as devices from our wide range in 31 Bite showrooms, online stores and call centers,” says Arunas Mickevicius, CEO of Bite Latvija. According to him, the merger of companies within one group is a logical step, given the development of the telecommunications market, where synergy and concentration of forces in three main areas are important – mobile communications, the Internet and integrated ICT solutions, high-quality television and video content. Baltcom clients were promptly informed that as a result of the merger of companies, neither prices nor the range of services would change. The agreement to acquire 100% of the telecommunications company Baltcom was signed by Bite Latvija in September 2019, but the deal required permission from the Competition Council, which was received in February 2020. The transaction amount is confidential.
