In addition to Magnit, the top 5 ranking includes companies that own the Pyaterochka, Fix Price, Perekrestok and Dixie retail chains. In total, 42 companies were included in the rating, 14 of which increased their profits at the end of last year, while for the rest they decreased. The total revenue of the list participants increased over the year from 7.3 trillion to 8 trillion rubles (a year earlier, the total profit of the 20 companies included in the rating reached 173 billion rubles, which is 27% more than in 2022).

In 2024, the Thunder company (owns the Magnit chain) earned 69.2 billion in net profit. In second place in the ranking was the company Agrotorg (part of the X5 Group) with Pyaterochka supermarkets (36.6 billion rubles), and in third place was Best Price with Fix Price stores (21.9 billion rubles).

The 20 most profitable food retail companies in 2023 collectively earned more than 8 trillion rubles in revenue, which is 9.6% more than in the previous year. In terms of revenue, the leader in the list is Agrotorg (2.4 trillion rubles), the second place in terms of this indicator is held by Thunder (2.3 trillion rubles).

In addition, this year a number of large players were not included in the rating, for example, Lenta, which received a net loss of 1.8 billion rubles, as well as the Svetofor chain, which belongs to many legal entities. The largest of the Svetofor companies, Torgservice 78, with revenue of more than 17 billion rubles in 2023, earned 167 million rubles in profit.

According to company experts, more than 50% of Russian residents continue to regularly purchase products in offline stores, but the popularity of online shopping continues to grow. In this regard, analysts expect a decrease in the growth of financial indicators of traditional retailers in 2024, as well as due to competition from stores in big cities, increased personnel costs, and a decline in food inflation.
