Deputy Minister Michał Kołodziejczak met with representatives of poultry and egg sector organisations at the Ministry of Agriculture, during which the issue of changing the regulations on egg labelling was discussed, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

According to the delegated regulation of the European Commission, from 8 November this year, eggs will have to be marked at the place of their production. This is causing great concern in the poultry industry. Experts emphasize that the requirement to mark eggs on farms, instead of in packing plants, will lead to a collapse in egg sales and the loss of many valuable export markets.

However, this Regulation also opens up the possibility for Member States to grant an exception to this rule, on the basis of clearly defined criteria, by allowing eggs to be marked at the first packing centre to which the eggs are delivered.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Deputy Minister Kołodziejczak declared that, together with egg producers, he will develop regulations to take advantage of the derogation possibility provided by the Commission's delegated regulation.
