The insurer will pay compensation of 83,000 euros for a car that "drowned" in an underground parking lot

За "утонувший" на подземной парковке автомобиль страховщик выплатит компенсацию 83 000 евро

Insurance company BALTA has already received more than 2,200 claims from customers affected by the recent storm. The insurer is currently preparing to pay one of the largest compensations – about 83,000 euros – for damage to a 2024 Range Rover. The SUV was in an underground parking lot, which was flooded during a downpour. And although the owners of the building tried to hold back the influx of water by constructing a protective rampart of sandbags, the rains were too heavy, and their efforts were unsuccessful. The car was under water for three days. As a result, not only all the electronics and control units were irreparably damaged, but also the interior, engine and other important parts. In such cases, the manufacturer's warranty does not apply. An independent examination showed that it was not possible to provide high-quality repairs – the car literally needs to be reassembled. Therefore, it was decided to write it off, compensating the owner for the full cost. "BALTA has so far received 78 claims for damage to vehicles as a result of heavy rains. Most of the cars can be repaired, but some will be written off. We have already identified five such vehicles, including a practically new Range Rover worth around 83,000 euros. This is one of the largest claims we have calculated to date for damage to property caused by the recent storm. The total amount of claims is expected to exceed 3.5 million euros," says Armands Lagons, Head of Private Property and Specialised Products at BALTA.
