The first turbines of Estonia's largest wind farm have begun generating electricity

Первые турбины крупнейшей в Эстонии ветряной электростанции начали вырабатывать электричество

The first three wind turbines of Enefit Green's Sopi-Tootsi wind farm have started generating electricity. As of today, 28 of the 38 wind turbines in the park have already been installed and are gradually starting to generate electricity. According to representatives of Enefit Green, the installation of the remaining wind turbines is proceeding according to plan. According to Janek Lillemägi, Head of Wind Farm Construction at Enefit Green, the goal is to start generating electricity from the new wind farms as soon as possible: "We started installing the wind turbines on 15 April and started generating on 12 August, which was possible thanks to effective cooperation with all interested parties. We will continue installing the remaining wind turbines and connecting them to the grid," said Lillemägi. The total capacity of the wind farm is planned to be 255 megawatts, making it the most powerful in Estonia. The construction of the Sopi-Tootsi wind farm began in early 2023. The foundation was completed in February of this year, and the installation of the wind turbines began in April. The wind farm is scheduled to be completed in the first half of 2025. A total of 38 Nordex wind turbines will be installed in the Sopi-Tootsi wind farm. The nominal capacity of one wind turbine is 6.7 megawatts, and the blade diameter is 163 meters. The generator and gearbox of the wind turbine are located in the nacelle at a height of 159 meters. The highest point of the wind turbine – the tip of the blade – is 241.5 meters above the ground. A 74-megawatt solar power plant will be built next to the wind farm, the construction of which began in the summer of 2023. "The construction of the support frames for the panels is in the final stage, and approximately 112,000 panels are currently being installed. We plan to start generating electricity at the solar power plant in the autumn. The construction of the solar power plant should be completed by the end of next year,” said Rainer Tammus, Head of Renewable Energy Project Development and Implementation at Enefit Green. The wind and solar power plants are expected to produce a total of 750 gigawatt-hours of electricity, which will cover almost a tenth of Estonia’s current electricity consumption. Over the past year and a half, Enefit Green has started generating electricity at eight new parks, five of which have already been fully built and three are in the final stages of construction. In addition to the Sopi-Tootsi wind and solar power plant, two large wind power plants are under construction in Lithuania. In Kälme I (80 MW), all 14 wind turbines have been erected, and in Kälme II (87 MW), the foundations for the wind turbines are being poured. In Latvia, work is underway to build Enefit Green’s first solar power plants. Read RusDelfi wherever you like. Follow us on Facebook, Telegram, Instagram and even TikTok.
