As reported by Echo Dnia, the night storm had disastrous course and consequences. The heavy rains were accompanied by hurricane winds and hailstorms. There were local floods, flooding of crops and landslides. The storm destroyed cereals, rapeseed and corn, which was additionally trampled by hailstones. The fields were completely destroyed. Losses also include torn roofs, destroyed buildings and machines, washed out roads, and downed power lines. Water poured into farms, destroying already harvested cereals and rapeseed in warehouses.
In the Słupia commune, 5 out of 6 thousand hectares of agricultural land have losses of almost 100%. One of the farmers quoted by Echo Dnia tells how a storm devastated 130 hectares of wheat within a few minutes. The wind destroyed the roof of a warehouse with previously harvested rapeseed and grain, and a downpour turned the warehouse into a swimming pool. A farmer became bankrupt overnight because, due to the poor economic situation last year, he did not buy insurance for this season. Many other farmers in the Jędrzejów district found themselves in a similar situation.
The mayor of the Słupia commune, Tomasz Koper, estimates based on reports that the storm completely destroyed the crops of corn, rapeseed and peas. In the case of cereals, losses reach at least 80 percent. The commune is waiting for help from the government and the voivode, because it will not be able to help farmers and their families with its own funds.
