A trial has started regarding an IKEA employee who was fired for writing about LGBT
Mec. Książek estimates that this ruling will set a precedent, both at the level of those passed in Polish and European courts.
Whatever decision the Supreme Court makes, it will be of great importance for HR departments operating in the country – both in international enterprises and small and large domestic companies – and will become a determinant for them whether the employer has the right to react as IKEA did – he comments for " "Republic of Poland".
The case is related to a ruling that the Supreme Court has already issued in a criminal case. In it, the store manager was legally acquitted of the charge of religious discrimination of an employee.
Worldview and work
The case has its origins in the events of May 2019, when IKEA posted a message regarding the "International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia". Then, in the internal communication network, one of the employees of the Krakow store wrote: "Accepting and promoting homosexuality and other deviations is sowing scandal," and then quoted verses from the Holy Scripture.
A few days later, the employee was fired by the store manager.
