Sales of new passenger cars in Estonia have decreased significantly this year, which car dealers explain by the upcoming car tax and consumer uncertainty due to the general state of the economy, writes Rus.ERR .
From January to July, sales of new passenger cars in Estonia as a whole decreased by 13.8% compared to the same period last year.
According to Andrey Yevtushenko, sales manager from the Mustamäe representative office of Moller Auto, this is due to the fact that people do not dare to make large purchases due to the general situation in the economy and rising prices.
At the same time, the decline in sales is not universal: while sales at Moller Auto, which offers Volkswagen cars, have decreased, at the Tartu representative office of Aasta Auto, which offers Škoda cars, sales have remained at the same level.
Both Yevtushenko and Tamm found it difficult to give an accurate forecast of how much the auto tax will affect sales next year.
