The incident took place at a stud farm in Dobersdorf, Plön district in Schleswig-Holstein (Germany). The owner saw with her own eyes and filmed with her smartphone how the balloonist dangerously descended over her farm and then landed in the paddock – Agrarheute reports.
As a result, he scared the horses in the paddock. The animals tried to get out of the fence at all costs. One horse broke his legs and suffered other injuries as a result of these attempts. The vet had to euthanize the horse to spare it from suffering.
The balloonist explained that there was a fault with the burner that heats the air in the balloon. He claimed he had no other choice. This, however, did not convince the horse's owner, because, as she told the police, there were huge areas of empty meadows and forests around. According to the breeder, it was not the first time the balloonist had flown over the stud farm, even though she saw that he was scaring the horses. The matter will probably be decided in court. For now, the police are investigating the incident.
