Kaufland opens a new chapter. He has already achieved success in these countries
Participants of summer internships at Kaufland, who have been gaining their first professional experience in various departments of the chain since the beginning of the summer, visited Wola Krzysztoporska, where the chain's distribution center is located, on August 1. The aim of the study visit was to learn about the logistics chain from a practical perspective in the full-stock central warehouse supplying Kaufland stores throughout Poland. Due to its key function, this facility is the heart of the network's logistics. The magazine has over 100,000 pages. square meters, employs 700 employees and serves all 246 stores of the chain. At the same time, it is an efficient and multifunctional logistics process management center, as well as one of the most modern automated warehouses in Europe.
During their visit, the interns learned about key places in the distribution center and the most important logistics processes thanks to which fresh food and non-food products are available in Kaufland stores every day. One of such places is a freezer warehouse, which will supply all Kaufland stores with frozen products from the moment it is launched in 2022. It is an automatic warehouse and can store up to 15,000. pallets. A group of trainees were able to go inside, where the temperature is -21 degrees Celsius. It was quite a challenge because August started with another heat wave.
The next stop of the interns' visit was an automatic high-bay warehouse with a capacity of approximately 40,000. pallets and handling up to half of the food volume in stock at the distribution center. The installation operates at a pace that handles 400 pallets per hour, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The students also visited a general cargo warehouse, where items in collective packaging are prepared for shipment, and the process is carried out automatically or with the participation of employees picking orders into special boxes at ergonomic workstations. In the general cargo warehouse, trainees could not only observe the automatic picking mode, but also try their hand at being commissioners, packing ordered goods into boxes.
— The visit to the distribution center was an interesting experience for me. As a customer, when shopping in stores, I have never wondered where all these items come from. The trip to Wola Krzysztoporska showed us that before they reach the customer's shopping cart, all products go through the full logistics chain: the central warehouse receives products from suppliers, stores them and sends them to stores according to demand. Leaving the store with bags full of purchases is the final stage of a long and complicated process, says Weronika Matuszczyk, an intern in this year's Kaufland summer internship program.
A visit to the Distribution Center in Wola Krzysztoporska is one of the points of the summer internship program, during which participants – working every day in various departments of the chain – gain their first professional experience in a retail chain. The internship program, which will end on September 30, includes, among others: thematic workshops conducted by Kaufland experts, as well as a competition task in the supermarket – the so-called Market Challenge – a game in which trainees divided into teams will compete to perform tasks related to the daily operation of stores.
