Rafał Brzoska: Most foreign companies do not show profits in Poland
Amazon has launched a new logistics center in Gorzyczki with an area of 211,000 sq m. This is already the 11th Amazon facility in Poland and the 3rd in the Silesian Voivodeship.
10 years of Amazon in Poland
In 2024, Amazon celebrates 10 years of operations in Poland – the first logistics center was launched on October 29, 2014 in Sady near Poznań. Now the warehouse in Gorzyczki is starting up.
Gorzyczki is a significant location in the region. The town is located on the border with the Czech Republic and, thanks to the A1 motorway, it creates an important communication hub with the north-western part of the country. The location of the new logistics center allows for effective management of the Amazon transport network – the distances between individual facilities do not exceed 2-3 hours' drive, which allows for quick and efficient order handling. What's more, the center includes an integrated maneuvering area and a parking lot for 82 trucks, making it the first Amazon building in Europe with such a large logistics potential.
The warehouse in Gorzyczki will improve Amazon's work in the Central and Eastern European Region
– The launch of the distribution center in Gorzyczki is another important stage in the development of Amazon's operations in CEE. The new center will improve not only our logistics network in Poland, but also in neighboring European countries, contributing to faster delivery and more efficient order processing for Amazon customers in the CEE region – emphasizes Tomasz Michalski, manager of the Amazon logistics center in Gorzyczki and Bielany Wrocławskie.
– Investment areas in Gorzyczki, due to their location in the immediate vicinity of the state border and the motorway junction, are among the most attractive in the southern part of the Silesian Voivodeship. I am glad that the zone and the Gorzyce commune are chosen by both global business tycoons and local entrepreneurs. In addition to the newly opened logistics centre, local entrepreneurs and dynamically operating family businesses are preparing their investments. The full launch of the new industrial zone will translate into additional budget revenues, which will allow the Gorzyce commune to implement further investments that are extremely important for its residents, e.g. in the field of road, recreational and educational infrastructure. The launch of the zone also means many new jobs, which is very important in the context of demographic changes in our district and voivodeship. Therefore, among other things, in connection with the investment, I turned to the starosta of Wodzisław with a request to launch new fields of study in our secondary schools – comments Daniel Jakubczyk, mayor of the Gorzyce commune.
Specialization is "dimensions"
The facility in Gorzyczki deals mainly with “non-sortable” orders, i.e. large-sized and non-standard products, such as furniture or garden equipment. These are products that cannot be automatically sorted on conveyor belts. This is the second such center in Poland – the first is located in Bielany Wrocławskie.
The logistics center in Gorzyczki was designed in accordance with ecological standards. The facility received a BREEAM sustainability certificate at the "Excellent" level – the second highest rating in this system.
Additionally, the logistics centre is equipped with 14 charging stations for electric cars, available to employees, business partners and guests of the company.
How much does Amazon pay in Poland?
Amazon provides stable employment – from October 1, 2024, the hourly rate for entry-level employees will be PLN 33.92/hour gross, including a bonus for attendance according to the schedule . In addition, the company offers a package of benefits: private medical care, life insurance, free bus commuting to work on selected routes (including Rybnik, Racibórz, Jastrzębie Zdrój, Żory) or hot meals for PLN 1.
– Another Amazon logistics centre in the Silesian Voivodeship, after Sosnowiec and Gliwice, is a chance for professional development for residents of the nearby Gorzyczki. We provide people joining our team with many options for improving their qualifications, such as a UDT forklift operator course financed by Amazon, which allows them to obtain a certificate and thus qualifications recognised throughout the country. I hope that the stability of our employment offer, as well as the numerous benefits resulting from it, will encourage many local candidates to apply for positions available at the logistics centre in Gorzyczki – comments Marcelina Bednarczyk, EU recruitment manager at Amazon.
Amazon employees also gain access to a training package. For example, they can start learning English or take advantage of the flagship program "Focus on your development" implemented for 10 years from the first day of work. Amazon also finances employees' participation in training courses, as well as studies in selected fields: technology, transport, administration, business studies, mechanics and industrial systems. The subsidy can amount to up to PLN 26,000.
Candidates for entry-level positions do not need to have experience – the offer meets the needs of people starting their professional career or planning to change the industry. Recruitment for entry-level and specialist positions at the logistics center in Gorzyczki is currently open, and a detailed list of available offers can be found at: www.amazon.pl/Gorzyczki
– In 2024, we celebrate the 10th anniversary of Amazon's operations in Poland. The central location of our country in Europe significantly supports logistics activities, especially in e-commerce, which favors the development of Amazon's operations on the Vistula and increases the value of our investments. We constantly focus on creating innovative services for our customers, trading partners and SMEs that are developing with us. The location of our newest center is therefore an excellent opportunity for Gorzyczki and the entire region for further, dynamic development – summarizes Sławomir Płonka, Amazon Operations Director in the CEE region.
Over the past 10 years, since the launch of its first logistics center in Poland in 2014, Amazon has invested over PLN 20 billion in the country. By 2022, the company had created over 70,000 direct and indirect jobs in Poland, and its investments had generated over PLN 15 billion in wages locally.
